Stick Cottage

Overview
Stick Cottage is a sensitively modernised one bedroom, single storey stone cottage, standing in the owner's grounds with its own pleasant garden and rural setting. Offering ideal accommodation for 2-3 people, the property is well equipped and a relaxing base ideally placed for exploring Anglesey and Snowdonia.
Accommodation
Decorated and furnished to a high standard, Stick Cottage boasts cosy and comfortable, all ground floor* accommodation, including an inviting sitting room with inglenook fireplace and exposed beams; well-equipped kitchen-diner with electric induction hob, microwave with convection oven and grill, fridge, dining table and chairs; good sized bedroom with twin beds; bathroom with shower, basin and WC; useful crog loft overlooking the kitchen (accessed by fixed vertical ladder) for storage etc. Views from all rooms over gardens.

The bedroom is laid out with twin divan beds, which can be pushed together to form a comfortable 'double' bed. Although the accommodation is ideal for a couple, there is room in the bedroom or sitting room for an airbed (available on request) for an extra child or adult.

Full oil central heating with additional heating from electric 'wood-burner' stove in sitting room. Colour TV (Please note, reception on some channels can be affected by high winds), DVD player, wireless internet access, numerous tourist leaflets, selection of games, puzzles, books and DVD's. Fuel and power included in summer months (£25 per week fuel supplement 1st Oct - 31st Mar). Bed linen included in rent but please bring your own towels.

Own garden area with garden furniture and barbecue. Off road parking for 2 cars. Cot and highchair available by prior arrangement. Kayak and bike storage available. Use of freezer and washing machine on request. This is a non-smoking property. Sorry no pets. Village shops, pub, café and take-away (Indian or Fish and Chips) all within 5 mins drive.

* Please note, there are 2 steps down into the cottage at the front door, a small step into the bedroom and sitting room, a step up to the (smaller than average) shower cubicle and the area outside is natural stone pathways and steps. Consequently, it may not be accessible if you have additional access needs. Please feel free to contact us for further information.

History
Stick Cottage is steeped in history, with some parts dating back to the 18th century. The Cottage is part of a property that was previously in the Williams family for 200 years until the 1970's. During this period, it was part of a thriving smallholding, which provided the only shop and bakery for the village of Dwyran. Fresh goods grown on the land were sold from Refail Siop (Smithy's Shop), while items such as coal and grain came from further afield, delivered by pony and cart from the Caernarfon ferry.

In its time, Stick Cottage has been both a smithy and a dairy, before becoming a software development office in the late 1980's (AditSite and AditTrec), and most recently is where the Anglesey Stick first originated (hence Stick Cottage).

The Anglesey Stick is a hand-crafted Greenland paddle made to order - 'a paddle of beauty as well as functionality'. If you're a keen sea-kayaker, you may like to try one out while you're staying at Stick Cottage. Just ask Paul about his paddles, while you're here.
Local Area
The local area is renowned for the award-winning sandy beach of Newborough, just 2 miles away, with Llanddwyn island at the far end named after Santes Dwynwen, the Welsh patron saint of love. This is a fantastic location for wildlife: Newborough Warren is home to a huge variety of wildflowers; the forest is a recent stronghold for red squirrels and is famous for its raven roost, often numbering in the thousands; ornithologists will also spot plenty of waders and waterfowl from the hides at Newborough and Malltraeth.

There are equally beautiful beaches at Aberffraw, Cable Bay, Lligwy, Traeth Bychan, Church Bay and Benllech, all less than half an hour's drive from Stick Cottage.

Other attractions include miles of wonderful coastline with 125 miles of coastal path and more shipwrecks than anywhere else in Europe; 120 scheduled ancient monuments; the renowned watersports facilities at Rhosneigr; the Norman castles of Beaumaris, Caernarfon and Conwy; the University city of Bangor; the mountains of Snowdonia; Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwll-llantysiliogogogoch (the village with the longest name in Britain!); Plas Newydd (National Trust), Anglesey Sea Zoo, Foel Farm, Menai Straits, sea or lake fishing, boat trips, cycle track, excellent golf courses, or even a day-trip to Ireland from Holyhead (120 mins).
